On Monday we completed our weekend journals. We talked about the importance of adding details to our pictures and writing, and practiced labeling what is in our pictures. The students did a great job adding labels to their picture, as well as more colors.
On Tuesday I was out at a meeting, but the students did GREAT with their first sub. They practiced handwriting, played outside, and finished their buddy books with their 3rd grade buddy.
On Wednesday we dove into letter writing. I noticed some students were writing letters last week, so I wanted to encourage this in the writing center. This has been a great way for students to practice their handwriting and phonics skills we have been learning. Thank you to all of you who sent in materials! This center has been SO popular. I hope many of you received some special letters in the mail this weekend :) Other centers this week included sorting in the sensory table, and of course ramp/block building.
*sorry for the lack of pictures on this day... I was busy helping in centers!
On Thursday we learned how to use the app Seesaw, which is a digital portfolio for each student. The students worked with a partner to record their favorite place in Highland Park and why. You will get to see all of the pictures and videos created on Seesaw at conferences! They did a great job being responsible with our iPads too.
We also continued with our center work, and completed an S A T sound sort that came home with your student. These sorts are great practice for cutting, gluing, as well as phonics.

On Friday we reviewed our 3 letter sounds again with a scavenger hunt. Students had to hunt around the room for words that start with either S A, or T, and then record it on their sheet by coloring it in. We also got a real mailbox for our letter writing center which the students LOVE! This week, the other popular center was definitely dramatic play/dress-up. The students have been playing "garbage man" and sorting garbage vs. recycling, which is a great math sorting activity!
Next week we will do our first experiential center by turning our classroom into a police station! This will include writing, math, and dramatic play. We also have a few STEM challenges to complete including Cardboard Challenge Day! You can read about this global day here: http://imagination.is/our-projects/cardboard-challenge/
