This week in Kindergarten...
The highlight of literacy this week was our experiential weather center! Really, the center ended up being literacy, math, and science. The students decided what materials THEY wanted to be in the center and settled on the clothes, thermometers, supplies to build sets and backgrounds, ipads to research the weather, and all of our makerspace supplies. The favorite activity definitely was dressing up a friend for different seasons. We practiced discussing what you need to wear for certain weather and why. Some students wrote out scripts for weather reports, many created different weather settings or types of weather, and we all got very into making kites to fly in the wind. We even borrowed a wind tunnel from Green Bay School and talked about what properties make things fly in the wind (weight). We will be continuing this theme next week and hopefully filming our weather reports!
We read a lot of weather/earth themed texts this week as well. We read Little Cloud by Eric Carle, and for Earth Day, we read one of my very favorite books, The Lorax, and wrote how we would help the earth. And of course we had to wear Lorax mustaches too!

In math this week we practiced addition, handwriting, and introduced subtraction. On Monday we reviewed the correct way to write all of our numbers through Handwriting WIthout Tears, and wrote them on our tables with dry erase markers. We then practiced writing 1-30. We practiced adding the pips on the two sides of the dominoes, and introduced subtraction through bowling! Lastly, we compared addition and subtraction and talked about how in addition we are adding or staying the same, and with subtraction we will be taking away.
Tuesday was an author visit with Mike Thaler! Some of my AM class stayed for it. It was so fun having them all together.
We went outside many days this week to enjoy the Spring weather, and on Friday had indoor recess. Eliana' Aunt was also our mystery reader.
It was a great week :)
