In literacy this week we focused on reviewing our Jolly Phonics sounds and wrapping up our unit on community.
Monday and Tuesday the students did phonics centers that included a puzzle, using the Jolly Phonics app on the ipads, practicing writing CVC words, building objects that included our sounds with Legos, and practicing writing words with our set 4 sounds.
During snack time this week we have been watching a series of videos called Alphablocks. These our a great review of our letter sounds and making words. This one below is for the /oa/ sound, but there are tons on YouTube if you want to watch them at home!
In math this week we continued to work on combinations of 10 as well as teen numbers using ten frames. We have been doing an activity where I show the students 10 unifix cubes in a rod, and then I put it behind my back and pull off some of the cubes. I then show them a certain number of cubes, say 4, and then they have to tell me how many are behind my back (6). We will be doing new math tasks next week.
On our silly Friday morning we had a special Mystery Reader, my friend who is studying to be a teacher, Miss Burnside! She read a really cool book about Jane Goodall. We also enjoyed the warmer weather and played outside. As always, they played so well together and we had so much fun. Oh, and we did Star Wars themed yoga!
