In literacy this week, we incorporated a lot of science and started exploring living vs. nonliving things. We began by learning how to make observations. We practiced doing this by observing in our classroom and on the playground. The students wrote and drew about what they were observing. The next day, we observed on the courtyard and used ipads to record our findings. We also practiced using magnify glasses as a tool. Then, the students used those pictures to decide what was living and not living, and we then defined what that meant. We went back on the courtyard and used a chart to record our observations. Next week, our centers will revolve around this.
We also celebrated stuffed animal day by reading to our stuffed animals

In math this week we focused on different strategies we could use to add or subtract, such as using a 10 frame, our fingers, a number line, or counters. We also did a count the room to practice solving subtraction problems. Lastly, we completed our subtraction themed math centers with a dice game, a board game, bowling, and dream box.
The kids also continued to explore all the new toys each afternoon. They folded and put together all the cardboard blocks by teaching each other, it was AMAZING! Talk about a great math lesson!
Last but certainly not least, we prepped for Mother's Day by planting flowers! We painted the pots in art, made cards with our buddies, and Friday planted. While groups were planting, other kids were playing. We were so busy I didn't take any pictures. We also of course went outside and colored with chalk for C day. It was an awesome Friday :)
