Here is what has been going on in Kindergarten this week...
In Literacy we learned /z/, /w/, and /ng/ in Jolly Phonics and Handwriting. We also dove into guided reading groups this week which has been GREAT! I got to read in very small groups of 1-3 students on their individual reading levels and it was so amazing to see far they have come since the beginning of the year. This will be part of our regular routine now, I am hoping to do guided reading centers at least 3 times a week. The other centers included sight word work, blending, writing, iPads, and some free exploration centers with Legos and puzzles.

We also continued to talk about traditions and celebrations this week, and will be talking about birthday traditions going into next week.
In math we also did centers this week! The students did a memory game to match the number to it's 10 frame representation and a double 10 frame game where you roll a 20-sided dice and have to represent that number on the double 10 frame. The centers also included a unifix cube one where the students rolled a 10-sided dice, and had to add that many onto the rod of 10 unifix cubes and then determine the number it made (10+ 3 more unifix cubes makes 13). And lastly, a math game on the iPads called Subitize Tree.

In math we also did another complex task similar to the one we did last week with 11 and 12, this time with 13 and 14. We talked about all the way there are to count 13, the easiest way to show 13 with unifix cubes, how to turn 13 into 14, and how to represent it on a double 10 frame. We collaborated as a whole class and with partners and had some really great conversations and questions.
This week we had not 1 but 2 Mystery Readers! Matthew's Grandpa came Wednesday and Melina's Mom as well. We were able to play outside Friday and had so much fun. A perfect end to our week :)
