This week in literacy was all about practicing our Jolly Phonics sounds, and learning more about identity.
We learned our last sound for this round, /d/, on Monday. The rest of the week was spent in centers reviewing. The 4 centers included playing an alphabet and sound game on the Promethean Board, a phonics game on the iPads, finding letters and objects that started with our sounds in "mystery rice boxes", and using the handwriting blocks to make the letters.
As you can imagine, using the iPads was a big hit!
Also, during our whole group afternoon meetings, we have been practicing blending words with the magnetic letters. The students LOVE doing this and coming up with different words they can blend, sound out, and then read. Each week they get better and better at doing it! This is also something that would be great to practice at home. You can use magnetic letters if you have them, or the flashcards that were sent home in the Jolly Phonics review packet.
Next week we will finish identity, and start learning about community and Thanksgiving!
