Announcements:
- We will be assessing our next 7 Jolly Phonics letters next Monday (11/9). They are /c/ and /k/, /e/, /h/, /r/, /m/, and /d/. I am going to send home the packet of activities for practice on Tuesday. I will also post the video of the students singing the songs Tuesday or Wednesday.
- The students are going to be doing a project in ALO next Tuesday (11/10) that requires recycled materials. Between now and then, please send in any recycled materials (boxes, soda bottles, milk gallons, empty and clean food containers, etc.) Thank you for your support!
- The students have been asking me to send the link to our favorite math game home- abcya.com their favorite games are under Kinder math and are called Counting Fish and Fuzz Bugs. Fun and educational games they can play at home!
In literacy this week, we learned /r/ and /m/ in Jolly and Handwriting. We practiced A LOT of blending our sounds to make words. The students can read AND write so many words now!
While there was a sub on Monday, the students did more practice on 5 senses and identifying their feelings through reading stories and talking with a partner. We are going to continuing learning about identity this coming week.
On Thursday, we did a really fun activity based off a book the students read in ALO called Not a Stick by Antoinette Portis. The directions were to gather 5-6 leaves from outside, and then turn it into something that was NOT a leaf. It was so neat to see what they came up with and how they used their imaginations.

In math this week, we we worked on comparing numbers, counting, and graphing.
The students completed a fall graphing activity with the substitute where they were independently counting the number of objects on a pumpkin and graphing the results.
During centers we played 2 new games. One was "Haunted Houses" where the students had to roll a 12-sided dice, identify the number, and then count and put that number of unifix cubes into their haunted house. The other was "Spooky Spiders" where they had to roll two standard dice and then add the two numbers together (they did a great job with this addition!) and then put that number of spiders on the web. They then had to compare who had more on the board- them or their partner. The last center was working on the iPads to carve a pumpkin and then make it talk using an app called ChatterPix where you can record your voice. The students described what shapes were on their pumpkin- so fun!
We also compared 2 pumpkins and decide which was bigger. We looked with just our eyes and made our vote, and then measured them using unifix cubes to see which was actually taller. Then, we decided which was wider, and measured that using string.

Last but certainly not least... Halloween on Friday!
We had the BEST afternoon showing off our costumes, dancing, reading Halloween stories, and building/coloring Haunted Houses.
The party was a HUGE success!! The students decorated trick-or-treat bags, read a Halloween book, turned each other into mummies, and made a healthy Halloween snack. We had so much fun! Thanks again to our parent volunteers that made it happen!
And thanks to all the parents that came out for the parade :)
Hope you had a great Halloween weekend!
