Hi Families-
Announcements:
- I loved getting to see so many of you at Open House! I sent home the report card letter from Dr. Grable and the note from our room mom, Alyse Gamson, with every child on Friday.
- Just a friendly reminder about the environmental print assignment. We will use them on Tuesday to make sure everyone has time to bring them in - I will also have plenty of extras if you cannot send them with your child.
- The District 112 Fund Run is this Saturday at Ravinia! Here is the link to sign up if your family is interested-
http://www.112foundation.org/fund-run/ I will be there :)
- We FINALLY have PE this week on Monday! Please remember to send your child in gym shoes.
- If you are following your child on Class Dojo, a heads up that I am going to be clearing all points at the end of each week. We will start over every Monday to try and reach our class dojo point goal to earn recess on Fridays.
Our week was full of a lot of reading, and a lot of math center work!
On Tuesday, we read the brand new Dr. Seuss book that just came out this summer- What Pet Should I Get?

On Tuesday, we read the brand new Dr. Seuss book that just came out this summer- What Pet Should I Get?
The story is about a brother and sister going in a pet shop and having to agree on only ONE pet to get. The story ends on a cliff hanger... you don't get to see what pet they get!
We used our Promethean Board and voted on which pet we all thought they would get.

The students then drew pictures of the pet they picked. Some students drew typical pets like a dog or a cat, and others decided to make up their own Dr. Seuss inspired pets!
On Wednesday we started our introduction to our Handwriting Without Tears program. We kicked it off with a scavenger hunt around the room to look for the handwriting letters.

After, the students explored the letters and tried using them to make letters of their own
(and some other silly things of course!)

Thursday we celebrated Dot Day in our classroom.
Dot Day is the week of September 15th, and it stems from the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. It is all about celebrating creativity, courage, and collaboration. You can read more about the international event here:
http://www.thedotclub.org/dotday/
To celebrate in our classroom, we first read the book and talked about how everyone is different and everyone is talented in different ways, and that makes all of us special! We then collaborated and made a giant class dot, everyone drawing a little piece of it. Lastly, we all made our own dots by coloring them in any way we wanted to. I am going to take all the dots and turn them into a mobile to hang in our classroom! I will be sure to post pictures when it is finished.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the students did all new math games and manipulative in their math stations. We are continuing to practice counting 1-100, adding single digit numbers, and working on patterning.

We are also continuing to focus on recognizing and naming all upper and lowercase letters in literacy. On Friday, we played a whole class game called Snap. Going around in a circle, each student takes a letter out of the "crocodiles mouth" and has to say the letter and if it is uppercase or lowercase. If they get a snap card, they must put all of their letters back in. We had a lot of fun with this!
We are also continuing to use our reading corner for free reading time daily, and the students are loving it.
That was our week in 124!
