It was so good to be back in our classroom after 2 weeks off!
We jumped right back into it, learning /oa/, /ie/, and /ee/ /or/ in Jolly Phonics. We did a lot of blending words this week using our new sounds.
We also did many Second Step lessons this week (our social/emotional learning program). We learned about identifying feelings (ours and someone else's), being an assertive learner, and ways to stay focused during school.
We also continued to talk about community, and with our 3rd grade buddies we did a little research project about our favorite places in Highland Park. The big buddies helped us search on their Chrome Books for pictures and information about their place and fill out some information about it. The students LOVED getting to work on the computers with their buddies! We are going to use this information to build Highland Park out of our recycled materials this week. Pictures of that to come next week :)
It was an exciting week in math. We learned how to use Seesaw, which is an app that allows you to record and take photos and videos and organize the data by student (this is what I used to show you videos at conferences!). The students learned how to take and upload their own photos and videos of their own work, and they did AWESOME! Monday, we built Lego creations that had to have exactly 10 pieces in it. Then on Wednesday the students built a Lego creation between 10-15 pieces, and their partner had to take a picture of them when they were finished using Seesaw on the iPads. Then Thursday, they could build between 10-19 pieces, and their partner took a video of their work. It was so great to watch the students work together to build their creations and use their math skills to count, add, and subtract to get to the correct number.

Friday we celebrated our good behavior and relaxed a little bit after our first week back with indoor recess with Ms. Gistenson's class. We did iPads, dramatic play, art, and Legos. We had so much fun!
Noa's mom (and sister) also came to be our Mystery Reader!
It was a good week back!
