On Tuesday we journaled about our long weekends, and then started our 2 week long color unit! We kicked it off by seeing what we already knew about colors and drawing with groups by color (for example, draw things that are red). We then read The Day the Crayons Quit and wrote a letter to our favorite color crayon asking them not to quit so we could draw _______. Lastly, we opened up our dramatic play center and explored the play kitchen.
This week in Kindergarten... On Wednesday we sorted crayons by color, and then worked together to count and graph the results. We also read The Day the Crayons Came Home, and made our own crayons with our pictures on them. We also talked a lot about characters in stories, and how they are unique like us! We practiced identifying character traits with every book we read this week. On Thursday we read How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow, talked about how rainbows are made, and then made our own rainbow sun catchers! We also played a giant 10-frame match game for math. The students did a great job working together to remember matches and help each other count. We then ended our day with play in block and dramatic play centers. On Friday, we wore our favorite colors and sorted ourselves into groups. we then drew a picture of ourselves and graphed our results. Dr. Grable came to read us a story called Found! We then read Pezzitino by Leo Leonni, and talked about how everyone is special on their own, and how it is important to be yourself. We will finish this lesson Monday morning, using paint chip samples to make a mosaic-style picture inspired by the story. We also went to Art, and of course, we ended the week playing outside and inside. Next week we will continue color week with a lot of science experiments! We will also continue talking about characters as well as the setting in a story.
