This week in literacy, we continued with our vet center and added onto it. On Monday, Zach's dad came in and taught us all about being a doctor. He showed us real X-rays and gave us all different doctor tools like real gloves and scrub caps. It was SO fun, and so perfect for our center!
We focused this week on speaking and listening and more specifically, asking questions. We watched a Brain Pop about what it means to be a good speaker and a good listener. We then paired off with a partner and practiced making eye contact, speaking clearly, and asking each other questions. We talked about question words as well. We then applied what we learn during center time.
The updated parts of the vet center included: playing doctor and asking questions, being the patient and filling out the charts, working at the front desk and asking for certain prices for different animals, writing on the easel to answer questions and observe what they were seeing in the exam room, and creating blueprints to build animal houses.
This week was also K for kindness day. The students came up with their own kind words and pictures on post-its and put them all over our room :)

In math this week we focused on 2-D and 3-D shapes. We sorted real objects from our makerspace into our 5 types of 3-D shapes. We then used these posters to help us build our 3-D shape robots! The students built, and then I recorded them talking about what shapes they used to build it. The students also sorted 2-D shapes, built their own shapes with them, and then identified the number of sides they all had.
This week, we will be wrapping up the vet center, doing some data and measurement in math, and starting all of our end of the year special activities! It will be a fun one :)
