2. We will have Pajama Day in Kindergarten on Friday (12/18)!
3. Jolly Phonics homework will come home on Monday, but that will be the only one this week. We have SO many other fun math and literacy activities to do, we will get back to doing Jolly Phonics more regularly after break.
Phew... what a week! With the Physics is Fun assembly, Physics centers, Andy Rash author visit, and 2 mystery readers, it was crazy fun!
Monday's all school Physics is Fun assembly was entertaining and educational.
The interactive physics centers afterwards were so cool!

On Wednesday in literacy we learned /ai/ in Jolly Phonics, our first two letter sound.
We also worked on learning sight words. I, like, and the are the first 3 we have been talking about.
We also have been learning about Hanukkah this week in literacy and read two different books about it!
The Andy Rash author visit on Thursday was definitely a highlight. He talked about how he writes books, how he draws and creates the silly stories, drew for us, and did a reading of Archie the Daredevil Penguin. We LOVED it, and everyone did such a nice job sitting and participating!

We focused a lot on math this week. We did something called a 3-act task. Essentially, this is an open-ended math lesson where the students are the ones who ask the questions, decide what they want to know, and collaborate to get to an answer. They require a much higher level of thinking and it was a great experience! We will be continuing to do these tasks in the future. This specific task focused on counting with 10s and was called Peas in a Pod. We started out by counting using the 10 cards the students made. We counted our own, counted how many were in our table groups, and in our whole class. We then played and sang this song MANY times this week:
I also brought snap peas for the students to taste, play with, and count to get them interested in the lesson. We then watched a video that showed the inside of two snap peas that were small and medium sized. The video then showed a small, medium, and large snap pea, but not opened up. The students have to figure out how many peas were in each pod. They used many manipulatives and worked together to figure it out!
Another math video we use a lot is this counting to 100 one. This would be something fun and easy to practice with your child at home!
Olaf also visited our classroom this week! He caught many students demonstrating safe, respectful, and responsible behavior. We had so much fun looking for his sneaky hiding places every morning. He will be back next week too :)
Thursday, Alex's mom was our Mystery Reader and Friday Kate's mom was our Mystery Reader!
We also made it outside to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather on Friday :)
I cannot believe we are only 1 week away from Winter Break! It is going to be a good one.
